I never knew that Jill Scott wrote the female vocals for You Got Me by the Roots, which Erykah Badu did. Just listened to the live version of the Roots and Jill Scott performance. Love it!!

It’s interesting to find out people still don’t know this.

At the time the song was released, Jill wasn’t established, and the label wanted a more well known artist on the hook, despite the wishes of The Roots to have Jill on record.

There is no bad blood between any of them though. It’s all love. It’s very common knowledge now, and they’ve all performed it on stage together.
